Where Can I Learn Something About Web Analytics? (Dallas, TX)

Description:

Measuring things is the key to improvement and measuring all-things online is critical to the success of your marketing efforts. The measuring of online activities is called “web analytics” and there are a couple of ways you can pick up knowledge in this area.

1. Here’s a couple of suggested blogs by masters in the realm of web analytics. You would do well to read everthing they write.

  • Avinash Kaushik’s blog, Occam’s Razor. Avinash is also the author of the book, Web Analytics: An Hour A Day. This is one of those books where I make the offer, buy the book and read it. If you don’t like it I’ll buy it from you. It’s that good. I buy back very few books that I recommend.
  • Eric Peterson’s website plays host to numerous extremely competent web analytics practitioners. Visit, read, learn. Eric is also an accomplished author, penning industry standards such as Web Site Measurement Hacks, Web Analytics Demystified, The Big Book of KPI’s, and hundreds of blog posts, white papers and other commentaries. I’ll buy those too if you don’t see the value after you finish reading them.
  • Judah Phillips’ blog happens to be hosted on Eric Peterson’s website. Eric’s site says this about Judah Phillips…

Judah Phillips is an experienced web analytics practitioner and Internet expert currently working as a Director at a large multichannel media company. His blog is full of useful, unbiased, actionable insights learned from the real-world practice of a process-oriented, integrated approach to strategic Web Analytics for improving business performance.

This guy just writes good stuff. Period.

2. The University of British Columbia has an online course, 4 of them actually, that they offer to anyone who can write a check for the very affordable tuition. The course-ware is actually written, taught, and monitored by some of the characters I mentioned above in conjunction with the Web Analytics Association and other industry leading individuals. UBC is really the delivery system for the WAA’s content program. It’s good stuff, and they’re adding more related courseware all the time.

3. As just mentioned, the Web Analytics Association is the industry association. Their website offers opportunities to volunteer, participate, and learn as well as a lot of content for the education you’re seeking.

4. Eric Peterson began something called Web Analytics Wednesday sometime ago and the phenomenon is growing. Once a month, on a Wednesday just to keep the semi-alliterative effect going, in major cities around the world, anyone in the industry or just interested in the subject matter meet locally to talk about their favorite subject matter: web analytics. You can find a list of cities that currently hold meetings right here on Eric Peterson’s site. Just don’t send Eric the bar bill when you’re done.

You wanted to know where you could learn about web analytics, well there’s a handful of good places to begin. So begin!
