There’s no rule of marketing that says you have to wait until Jan. 1st to begin a marketing plan for your business. The lack of a formal plan of attack is probably costing your firm money right now and where’s the wisdom in allowing that to continue for a couple more months for the sake of tradition? So the rule of thumb would be, the best time to start a plan would be 6-12 months ago. The second best time is right now.
A good plan should include implementation assistance along the way in the form of an advisor to assist with execution, tracking, and evaluation. This will cost you a negligible sum each month relative to either the lost revenue from not employing a marketing plan, or the cost to employ a full-time marketing staffer. Either way you win.
Marketing is for developing new and existing business, which is why you’re in business. Accounting is for tracking that development yet most small businesses spend more resources on their accounting than they do on marketing their business. Sound a bit backwards to you?
