Small Business and Paid Leave We Don’t Need

Dallas, TX 10 September 2009 By Phillip Crum Please Re-Tweet Freely

childHere’s a link to an article every small business owner should be reading and then directing email and snail-mail to the appropriate Congresssional contacts. Apparently there’s a bill in Congress to expand the current Family Leave Act to small businesses with 15 or more employees. That’s down from the current floor of 50 employees to qualify for mandatory participation.

Imagine a 15-man business with 2 people off for up to 12 weeks at a time! That would cause havoc in my business. Not only would I have to hire and train temp staff for only a 12-week period, but I get to pay the AWOL staffers, also! A double kick in the teeth.

This whole thing will be financed by yet another employer/employee contribution to still yet another pool of money managed by a gubment bureaucracy. Just what we need. Check it out and start emailing anyone who will listen in Congress or the Pres and his merry band of bill-pushers will get everything they want.

Click a couple, will ya!

    • Why Customers Won’t Buy (Despite Getting To Your Product Page) March 11, 2010
Imagine you own a toy-truck company. And on your toy-truck website you sell red trucks. And blue trucks. And green trucks. And yellow trucks. And mauvish-orange trucks (ok, so I’m running out of primary colours) Which means you’ve pretty much got a Products Page with loads of trucks. So logically, or so you think, the customer will head to your website, and […]
