Been trying to get hold of someone for more than three weeks to no avail. Keep in mind that I’m the customer here so you’d think there might be some sense of urgency to return the handful of messages I’ve left. Oh, no. This is an IT department guy and apparently he considers the customers that pay his salary a nuisance.
The live human I finally reached explained it all away by saying, (and boy, don’t I feel better now!) “he’s a very busy man”. Well, that’s a relief. I thought he was loafing.
The thing that really irks me about a statement like that, though, is the implication that I’m not a busy guy. This is not the first time I’ve heard this inflammatory remark before and it always makes me want to respond with, “yeah, well so am I! Good thing I’m having a slow month so I have the time to make this call 4-5 times.”
If you’re in sales or customer service, and even your IT dudes are even if they won’t acknowledge it, be careful what you say to people. Better yet, return your customers’ calls and you won’t have to wordsmith any excuses.
