Podcast Marketing

Think of podcasting as simply another way to package your information and reach an audience. In its simplest form it’s a short recording of information. Typically it’s either a monologue of you, the marketable resource, discussing some aspect of a topic that your target listening audience would find useful—valuable, or a conversation/interview between you and someone else to accomplish the same.

Different Audiences–Different Media

Rule #1-Match the medium used to the targeted audience. Not too many senior citizens would know what a thumb-drive is or how to use it. They’d much prefer a good, old-fashioned, printed brochure.

Different Media Each Have Unique Strengths

Rule #2-Match the message to the medium used.

  • Keep podcast recordings to 3-5 minutes, the average attention span of it’s primary audience.
  • Tell the listener how the point you’re making will benefit them, then tell them “why”, then “why” again!
  • Incent them to contact you.
  • Include several different ways to contact you and make sure to include their preferred medium.

Podcasting and You Integrated Marketing Strategy

Rule #3-Re-Purpose!

Fact is, podcasting is not as popular among potential target markets as a preferred medium as it is amongst those who love to make them. They are quite useful and fill a niche however, so don’t dismiss them for not being #1 on the list.

They reach a niche audience that prefers to listen to their information rather than read it. They can be quickly produced and distributed at tradeshows as a giveaway. The content can be printed in a brochure for mailing or other traditional distribution. A podcast library can be built on your website for anytime access by visitors as you build them. Use the content as a blog post. You’re limited only by your creativity when it comes to re-purposing and re-packaging a single message.

    • Why Customers Won’t Buy (Despite Getting To Your Product Page) March 11, 2010
Imagine you own a toy-truck company. And on your toy-truck website you sell red trucks. And blue trucks. And green trucks. And yellow trucks. And mauvish-orange trucks (ok, so I’m running out of primary colours) Which means you’ve pretty much got a Products Page with loads of trucks. So logically, or so you think, the customer will head to your website, and […]
